Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is fundamentally a reaction between the secondary petroleum product paraxylene (PX) and acetic acid. PTA is utilized to create PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) through a process of polymerization. Here, PTA is combined with other chemicals to obtain PET (Polyester).
